After being tangled up in the reddish brown upright tentacles of the sarcocornia quinqueflora while I floundered around the collection of mai mai's in the Waimea estuary, I decided I had to incorporate them into a painting.
The range of blues and greens in the hills and water was wonderfully complemented by the golden red tones of this coastal shrub.
This painting was a delight. I explored with pedantic detail the sticks and detritus attached to the mai mai, and was also able to paint the stunning Richmond ranges in the background with the iconic MDF plant in the mid-ground.
