I have been hibernating in the studio and putting many hours into the Lake Alexandrina painting. As it is a fairly large scale painting this has meant there is room for lots and lots of detail, more so than I imagined. This painting has had some fun aspects, and the contrast of subject matter has kept it interesting. From the smooth water, with the transparency and linear background reflections in contrast with the curly foreground reflections. Not to mention the contrast of vibrant blues and yellow/oranges and the tiny leaves on the trees adding another aspect of interest. It's certainly not boring looking at this one.
A lot more work than expected has been needed for the wiggly reflections and grasses, but the end result will be worth it.

Notice how the layers of the tussocks have to entwine? It makes for slow work but the final effect is fabulous. This is the second painting from this magical evening at Lake Onslow.
Arriving late in the afternoon...

The Hazard Range and Hall Range tower on each side of the valley with Mt Radove 2430m at the head of the valley. Due to the northern aspect the sun streams in from the head of the valley and bakes the valley floor...
