Lake Angelus and the Cascade

November 09, 2025

Lake Angelus and the Cascade

The first decent weather window in a while came upon us last weekend, so we bee-lined it for the Nelson Lakes, an easy, close spot for us to go for a dose of mountain scenery. Although I have walked & jogged the Mt Robert many many times over the years I thought it would be nice time to take the kids 8 & 10 along to Lake Angelus and down the Cascade. A great time for this loop as it's a bit cooler for exposed ridge travel, less traffic and left over snow fun. There was a little bit more snow left over than expected towards Lake Angelus, and we found some very good slopes that crisped up in the morning and made for some excellent sliding! On the way down the Cascade & Travers rivers were full of snow melt, with the Travers looking especially fresh and beautiful.
