Wire Yards Hut, is a backcountry hut located within the Oteake Conservation Park on the flat tops of the Hawkdun Range. At around 1500m above sea level the hut is fully exposed to the elements, nestled in a sunbaked hollow, surrounded by golden tussock plateaus, distant scree slopes, shrubland and wetland.
You can traverse the ranges of the Oteake Conservation Park and soak up the spectacular, vast landscape. There are opportunities to 4WD, hike, mountain bike, hunt, horse ride and also ski tour the area with the Mt Buster - Johnstones Creek Track being a enjoyable route to take you past Wire Yards Hut.

Yet there's...
