I visited the shearer's quarters and cookhouse after four wheel driving with the kids around the Oteake Conservation Park and visiting the railway and tailing huts on the Mt Buster - Johnstones Creek Track. After being baked in the hot sun and blasted by the wind on the tops, this little building represented a homely little shelter from the elements nestled in the valley flats.
Kiwi screenwriter Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog was also filmed at this location a few years after this visit. The location was re-vamped for the production, and I haven’t visited since to see what has changed...
