These are the thick layers of colour that are applied before any shape or detail is added. By the end of this update there are already 6-10 thick layers in some areas. This makes the painting ‘glow’ further down the track and provides a great base to start working on the detail. I also start to shape the landscape with colour at this stage, its hard to see, but in the shadow are rich blues that give it added dimension. Also working with a range of warm tones, to shape the land.

We planned to explore the Rainbow Station over the New Year with Rosa - 6 and Hazel - 4, tenting and checking out the hidden valleys and figuring how much we could carry and for how long. Unfortunately I injured my lower back (suspected herniated disc) two days before we were to leave.

Stanley Point Sailboats

I painted Stanley Point Sailboats, with summer fun in mind, the distant moorings and the expectations of the local kids doing backflips into the sea. This contrasting with the urban city-scape. Stanley Bay is a beautiful area - it's right in the heart of Devonport but almost feels like it's own little retreat.
