These are the thick layers of colour that are applied before any shape or detail is added. By the end of this update there are already 6-10 thick layers in some areas. This makes the painting ‘glow’ further down the track and provides a great base to start working on the detail. I also start to shape the landscape with colour at this stage, its hard to see, but in the shadow are rich blues that give it added dimension. Also working with a range of warm tones, to shape the land.

The Mole Tops Tarn painting is steadily progressing, I am currently alternating layering in the thick luminescent highlights and the detail strands of tussocks. Can't really rush this process...

Still steadily working away on the St Arnaud Tarn painting. I've finished the tarn, put a lot of work into the background mountain (Raglan) range. The light beams have been a challenge while retaining some detail - more...
