The Travers River is a clear, snow fed wilderness river that flows down the valley, made up by smaller rivers flowing into it from the Travers and St Arnaud ranges on either side of the valley. The river cascades past beech forest and open tussock valley flats and eventually feeds into Lake Rotoiti at the southern end of the lake. The deep blue pools and rushing rapids are excellent homes for trout and these are easily spotted through the clear water. With beautiful scenic mountain ranges towering behind as a backdrop the Travers is must to visit at the head of Lake Rotoiti.
