This new small work is a study of Lake Tennyson in the St James Conservation Area, still at a very early stage. I am currently using this to explore the colour palette and fauna unique to the area while I lay the base colours down for two larger works Princess Stream Tarns & The Molesworth.
This artwork captures the sun warmed tarn just after the ice has melted surrounded by the varied fauna and tussocks unique to the area. The impressive Crystal Peak, part of the Crimea Range at 2020m sits proudly in the background behind the slice of Lake Tennyson. A snowy glimpse of the St James Range can be seen in the background near the Clarence Pass.
